I have had such a heavy heart this week in light of the recent tragedies that took place in Las Vegas a week ago today. If I am being honest I have had a heavy heart for the world we are living in for quite awhile now. My heart breaks for the losses we have felt, the tragedies we have watched played over and over again, and ultimately the fear that we come away with after it all.
I took me a few days to think through the news, the media portrayal of the events and the Facebook posts of conspiracy theories. What I found to be so heartbreaking aside from the devastating losses felt by Americans everywhere was the battle of the “Facebook Friends”. This tragic disaster mixed with Facebook became one of political views, gun control, and of course the people vs the people. I wont get political on this blog or social media in general. I just felt an overwhelming sense of sadness that with something this terrible happening all some people could see was a chance to force personal opinions down each others throat instead of taking the opportunity to be UNITED, as humans, beliefs set aside for one moment.
Maybe you were affected, maybe your heart broke before your mouth spoke, or maybe you did not know what to do. Tragedy happens, there is evil in this world, and together we must look (some days even search) for the good. Tonight as I sit and reflect on the past week, I am humbled by this event that took place a week ago. It reminded me again (I need this reminder a lot) to tell my loved ones how much they mean to me, see the beauty in the setting sun, & enjoy this season of where I am. I hugged my students a little tighter, called my friends on the phone just to talk, and made sure to say a prayer for those who lost their loved ones.
I hope it humbled you to. I hope that this event made you see the good in your day to day routines. Life is short, make the memories, keep the negativity to yourself, and love one another.
If there is one thing I know for certain, it’s that life is better lived when done together. So, love your tribe & don’t forget to tell them how awesome they are every chance you get. Bring positivity & a smile with you tomorrow wherever you go. Do something kind for someone & make it a priority to leave a note, make a call or lend a hand. This is how we change the world. It’s simple, we start small. We love people, we love them so hard (faults, different opinions & everything else).
You are loved, so spread the love.
Happy Sunday friends,
